TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA — Dorothy Tate, a lifelong resident and dedicated keeper of regional history, is the featured guest in the latest installment of the Tuolumne Legends archival series. Hosted by Sgt. Aaron Rasmussen—who started the project to preserve the essential stories of the region—and co-hosted by Danny Hillier, the interview offers a rare, intimate look at the early days of Tuolumne County.
As an archival project started by Sgt. Aaron Rasmussen and produced by Ray Mena Productions, Tuolumne Legends aims to document the lived experiences and philosophies of community figures. This interview serves as a transparent, high-fidelity record of Dorothy Tate’s memories, providing a window into a bygone era of the Mother Lode.

Dorothy Tate is a long-standing member of the Tuolumne community, with roots reaching back to her childhood in the Cherokee area. The daughter of Elizabeth Graziola and Arthur Schiffman, Tate has spent her life witnessing the evolution of the region. Her participation in this series offers a bridge to the past, preserving the authentic narratives of the families and institutions that laid the groundwork for today’s Tuolumne County.
"Our goal with Tuolumne Legends, which was started by Aaron to ensure these stories are never lost, is to provide a high-fidelity, unedited space for community pillars to share their history," said producer Raymond Mena.
